"Gibraltar May Tighten Up Regulation of Online Casinos"
Gibraltar thinking about the possibility of imposing stricter online gambling regulations.
Unlike many countries, Gibraltar opened its arms and invited and welcomed
online casino and Internet poker businesses to make their base of operation there.
The loose regulations Gibraltar had in place with regard to Internet gambling
made it a haven for those businesses. Gibraltar is now considering the possibility
of imposing stricter regulations on online gambling and things may change soon.
Gibraltar is home to PartyGaming and Cassava Enterprises, two of the
largest online gambling businesses in the world. The country hosts many
other online gambling businesses as well, and this has made it a major
force in the online gambling world. Since Gibraltar is also the only non-EU
country with the rights to advertise its casinos in the United Kingdom,
there is a great incentive for them to match the standards set by the
United Kingdom. Current thinking in the government of Gibraltar is that
they should impose stricter regulations so that they more accurately correspond
to the Internet gambling standards upheld by the United Kingdom.
A new bill is being introduced that proposes a requirement for a remote
gaming license, as a result of these factors. Companies that are granted
a license would be required to disclose a great deal of information to legal
authorities in Gibraltar. The gaming license would only be granted if the
applying online gambling business can show that they will enforce strict
age verification measures, employ meticulous standards for software testing
and will act in a socially responsible manner.
