"Online Casino Portals - All About Fun and ROI"
Jan Balslev Pedersen wasn't gambling when he registered OnlineCasinos.com
It is due to a bit of luck, a lot of foresight and no gambling at all that
Danish student, Jan Balslev Pedersen, has a domain worth many times more than
he originally paid for it. Pedersen purchased the domain, OnlineCasinos.com from
Namewinner.com for what he calls “a gift”. It lived up to its description
within days of the purchase when he was approached by an online casino company
and offered $30,000 for the domain. Additional offers soon streamed in, some
for more than $50,000. Pedersen declined them all and chose instead to turn the
domain into an online gambling portal himself.
He already had some experience in this highly competitive industry.
Pedersen founded a Danish casino information site back in 2000 called
Casinoportalen.dk. In 2003, he sold this website at a hefty profit. “This
is an example of the considerable returns on investment which is achievable
with a carefully selected domain”, says Pedersen. Since he had invested
so much of his own time and energy into building the company, he was able
to keep his startup costs very low. “My start-up costs were minimal
because a few friends and I did the work – the cash outlay for the
startup was under $100,” he says.
Pedersen also learned a lot from his first venture and used the experience
and expertise gathered to build his new site, http://www.online-casino.com.
Today this site attracts at least one approach a week for sums markedly
larger than the original offers he received for the site.
Considering himself a veteran in the business, Pedersen notes that both
techniques and technologies have advanced considerably since 2000. “Of
course I had to learn from my mistakes, principally because I didn’t
immediately take on board the critical importance of really good search
engine optimization. Knowing what I know now about the industry, I should
have visited webmaster forums for free guidance. There is an abundance
of free and excellent advice on the Net for new webmasters. It’s
only a matter of reading, listening and learning in webmaster forums,” he
said.
Pedersen targets people looking for online gambling information and
he researches a variety of casino sites to review on his site. “I
take my responsibility very seriously,” he says. “I am publishing
unique and reliable reviews which I generate myself. If a player uses
one of the casinos in my directory I must feel absolutely certain that
it has been thoroughly tested in all respects and found completely acceptable.
If that player has a problem I have an obligation to help him resolve
it with the online casino if I want to keep my own and my site’s
credibility”.
He has also learned what type of contents attracts the most visitors
to his site and what keeps them coming back for more. He works hard to
keep his site interesting and dynamic and to keep the focus on providing

updates, gaming information important to online gamblers and detailed

this attracts many players too.
