“DataCash Offers Fail-Safe to Gambling Operators?”
Two companies are getting together to try and improve control
on online gambling
BT is an “identity verification” service whose method of
verifying identity is by asking a series of standard identification type
questions to anyone trying to access an online gambling site. They have
just signed an agreement with DataCash, a payment services provider used
by online casinos to transfer money.
The new agreement allows DataCash’ customers, i.e. the online
gambling sites, to detect players that are using online gambling sites
but are under age and therefore not permitted to do so. The agreement
will also allow DataCash to cross-check answers to questions which are
asked in BT’s verification procedures in a few different national
databases.
Such data as driving records, financial records, passport, mortality
and utility records are the sort of national information that would be
cross-checked and verified to see if it matches.
The process does not disclose personal information or data, but a mismatch
between the data compared will be picked up immediately and marked as “no
match”. Where there are no discrepancies, the search will be marked
as a “match”. The cross-checking and verification will also
create an independent trail proving that checking has taken place.
DataCash will be able to screen successfully for gamblers who are under
age, who have given false identities and are using credit and debit cards
fraudulently.
DataCash is, of course, aiming their marketing in the direction of the
Internet gambling site operators believing that the service will be of
great interest to them.
